Audiophiles have been clamoring over this album for years, and
deservedly so. This quirky soundtrack features songs written by Burt Bacharach,
largely performed by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. But the highlight here
is Dusty Springfield's breathy rendition of "The Look Of Love." Sonically
speaking, this album is the kind of thing audiophiles dream about, thanks to
producer Phil Ramone (Billy Joel, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Alice
Cooper). The channel separation is outstanding. You'll swear they were recorded
a mile apart.
Sure, the music sounds dated. This is music
your parents used to listen to. However, from an audiophile's standpoint, this
album is nothing short of stunning. The bass will shake the room, and the highs
are clean and crisp. For those of you who like to show off your stereo system,
Casino Royale is one the best albums around.
